How will offices look like after Covid 19 ?

Traditional setup of classic office workspaces and meeting rooms will be losing their importance and companies will have to provide more space for retreat, co-creation and community . This development will prompt a radical transformation of the traditional office concepts said by Serhan Kurusa - Export Director of ERA .

How will the Covid 19 change working places in Companies over the long term? How will it effect the business and staff after the virus is under control ?

We really do not have a clear answer to that question . However, through project experience and customer dialogue, we have been able to clasify office table legs on what we believe are the the best options for the new working system based on current developments.

Our classifications are based on the people's working types and conviction that the ideal working environment is designed to ensure it optimally supports the activities and processes carried out in a company and at home . Depending on people's purpose with regard to the activities carried out in them, we divide our Table Legs into the following categories:

  • Home Office Tables ; Spaces for simple tasks that are carried out home . People can also create their own Tables once they have to work at home after starting of corona . We produce high quality and very stable Hairpin Table Legs which can be accompany with a piece of Wooden Top for a great work at home

  • Office Log Table Legs : You keep working at the office but you need a space for tasks requiring a high level of concentration that are carried out alone , so you can create a following table by using Log Table Legs by matching it with a nice Wooden Top , this strong legs will give you a power to feel the highest concentration at work.

  • Meeting : Some works will still require spaces for gatherings that are needed for exchanging information , called traditional “meetings” . We present our Office Table Legs for the meetings which people still need to meet but please do not forget to keep "social distance" for the seating plan !

  • Co-creation : If you need spaces for creative and agile working with the aim of developing new concepts, solutions or products , please check our Office Table Legs for these kinds of meetings and clusters .

  • Community : Office Spaces for informal or non-work-related exchanges ; helping to boost team spirit and feeling of community , you can feel more comfortable and open to your collegues by using Table Bases which also give you a feeling of cafe seating instead of office ...

What changes are currently hapenning between these categories?

We believe that the working from home has permanently nailed down a specific experience in consciousness of office staff in relation to each one of these categories. We also believe that these experiences will prompt different implications for the offices of the future:

a) People began to feel that an office is not a necessity for carrying out basic works alone. In principle, these works can be completed as well in the living room, balcony , garden , bedroom , coffee shop . In the office of the future, the importance of spaces for basic activities and works will therefore gradually decline.

b) While some people have found the home office as a place of retreat and away for the stress of working environment , it may mean the exact opposite for other people . Children , distractions , housemates or nearby construction work can create a very difficult environment to work in silence . Therefore , Companies will be requested to set up more real retreat and private spaces and effective focus zones in future.

c) During the pandemic days , we all appreciate to digital meeting tools ( as ERA , we use ZOOM meeting application for meetings with our clients ) , with the purpose of meeting with oversea partners can be held just as effectively remotely. So, traditional meeting rooms may gradually decline in future.

d) Even though people enjoy working home , we hear that most of the people around us who have been working home began to yearn for working in social environment by talking with their collegues and having time with the best friend of colleagues . The importance of community spaces will teherefore also increase.

Conclusion

There is a clear shift towards more retreat, more co-creation and more community, and towards fewer basic activities and traditional meetings in offices.

This transformation is particularly essential because the traditional office concept (which still predominates in a large percentage of companies) functions according to the principle of “ standard workplaces & meeting rooms ” are about to dwindle in importance. For companies that had already adopted the multi-space approach before the coronavirus crisis, the transformation will be significantly easier to manage.

For the others, the need for action is all the more urgent, should our hypotheses prove true.
